Trail runners run wild with cheetahs and lions

The run also takes place in Big 5 territory, so the runners are led and carefully watched over by a game ranger on a game drive vehicle

Vryheid trail runners have been doing a lot of long weekend runs over the past few weeks, in preparation for the Ndlovukazi Trail Run (Louwsburg area) that was run two weekends ago. The trail run consists of three days along the most beautiful trails, run next to the Mkuze River. Day one was a 24 kilometre trail run, on a route consisting of an excellent combination of technical and easy trails. Day two was 22km and day three was 12km, ending at nearly 60km of trail running over the entire weekend. The climbing on the trails was significant, as the routes went up and down through the different habitats and thick bushveld found on the farm. The run also takes place in Big 5 territory, so the runners are led and carefully watched over by a game ranger on a game drive vehicle. As a result, the runners always felt very safe and in capable hands. The catering and accommodation was world-class and trail runners said it was such a privilege to be part of a group of like-minded people, who love running and the South African bush. The lunches and evening meals were a treat and everyone was entertained by great stories around the campfire every evening. Every afternoon, runners were taken on a game drive and got to see many rhinos and lions, elephants, a few big ‘dagga boys’ (buffalo), a cheetah and even a ‘tame’ cheetah, which they were allowed to pet. They also saw many antelope, hippos, a crocodile and more, plus many beautiful bird species. The weekend ended on a high when the trail runners had one last meal together after the morning’s 12km trail. “Thank you to all the new and old running friends for making it such a special and enjoyable weekend.”
