Take a paw in hand and support VAWS for a cause

Residents are being urged to support VAWS and to prevent another animal care organisation from closing its doors

A few weeks ago, the Vryheid Herald reported on the closure of the Vryheid SPCA, and that the new Vryheid Animal Welfare Society (VAWS) would take up the organisation’s responsibilities. The local SPCA had to close its doors due to non-compliance with the mandate of an SPCA needing an inspector. Stephan Vickers and Antoinette Ries battled to keep the SPCA open, drawing on their love of animals, and intend to continue with their hard work and dedication by establishing the VAWS on the former SPCA premises. However, as with any non-profit organisation, they are relying on the community for funds and support. Vickers and Ries explained that with winter approaching and animals needing warmth in their kennels, they are pleading for assistance with food for adult animals, puppies and kittens, as well as warm blankets. Ries added that VAWS also wanted to revamp the kennels and build more kennels to accommodate more animals. Any materials, manual labour or monetary donations are welcome. Contact the society on 061 517 3276. Residents are being urged to support VAWS and to prevent another animal care organisation from closing its doors.
