Operation Dudula looming in town?

Warning letters have been issued to foreign nationals, as from last week

The so-called ‘Operation Dudula’, which targets illegal foreign nationals, seems to have spread to Ladysmith.

This is a movement that started in Alexandra Township, Gauteng, recently.

According to local community leader Mr Nathi Mthethwa, they are in support of ‘Operation Dudula’.

“As a result, we have issued warning letters to foreign nationals in town, as of last week,” said Mthethwa.

“We want all foreign nationals who are here illegally to go back. We also want all those who run businesses that are of less than R5 million investment, which is required by the Immigration Act, to vacate those businesses and leave.” Mthethwa added that the deadline for foreign nationals to leave is Sunday (April 10).

“We asked the police and Home Affairs to join us on Monday. That’s when we start doing door-to-door visits to their premises, where we will be demanding the necessary documentation.”
