DA councillors do some cleaning up in Marikana

People must not litter everywhere and be conscious of what they dispose of at illegal dumping sites

Two Democratic Alliance (DA) councillors took it upon themselves to do some cleaning up in Marikana, Sithembile.
Cllr Sibusiso Mbatha from Ward 3, who currently serves as a public representative at Umzinyathi District Municipality, along with Cllr Saleem Mohamed Abdool of Ward 7 embarked on the clean-up campaign on Friday, March 25.
Along with DA volunteer members, they cleaned up an illegal dumping site in the area.
Cllr Mbatha said that: “As DA councillors, we need to lead by example and in so doing also teach our community members to use ‘skip bins’ that have been provided by the municipality. Waste management plays a crucial role in keeping our towns and homes clean.”
He further explained that:
“People must not litter everywhere and be conscious of what they dispose of at illegal dumping sites. We found used disposable nappies, used condoms and used sanitary towels.
“We need to come together as a community and work hand-in-hand with the municipality in keeping our townships clean.”
The councillors also thanked Right Price Hardware Dundee for sponsoring them with bin bags and gloves for the campaign.
