Bergville Dagga War victims were remembered yesterday (March 31) during Human Rights Day celebrations held by Okhahlamba Local Municipality. The event took place at the Sokesimbone sports field in the Ngoba area.

The day was held in remembrance of the 23 victims of the Bergville Dagga War of 1956. As part of the Human Rights Day celebrations, the municipality committed itself to bring back the remains of the 23 men who were hanged by the apartheid government back in 1956.

The men were buried in Pretoria.

The process of bringing back their remains has started already, and a new burial spot was identified yesterday.
