Clean-up targets illegal dumping in Ward 3

Despite regular cleaning in Ward 3, residents are accused of dumping refuse in the open fields.

Clean-up targets illegal dumping in Ward 3 –

Ward 3 Councillor, Connie Hariram has sourced the help of the Newcastle Muncipality to clean up refuse in the area. The clean-up was undertaken on Wednesday afternoon (March 30).

With illegal dumping spoiling open areas in Fernwood (specific problem streets are Asparagus Avenue and Hathorn Street), Cllr Hariram has again appealed to residents to do their part.

She claimed that despite regular cleaning in Ward 3, residents continued to dump refuse in the open fields. Cllr Hariram questioned this, as the municipality collects up to 15 refuse bags from each household on collection days.

We as the community of Ward 3, should play an active role in keeping our surroundings tidy and clean, which can be achieved by not dumping our household refuse wherever we feel like it!”
