Northern Natal Rhino wrestlers travelled to Volksrust on Saturday to compete in the third leg of the Orange Grove Wrestling League.
Wrestling of a high standard was on display and the competition was intense.
50 wrestlers from Glencoe, Newcastle, Vryheid and Volksrust competed on the mat with grit, determination and passion.
After five hours of gruelling ‘fighting’, Orange Grove made sure that each participant was rewarded with a trophy and some juice.
Mpho Maguatse was named ‘Wrestler of the Day’. This 10-year-old from Benville in Glencoe is a ‘special find’ indeed. He overpowered his opponents with controlled aggression and super technique. He is a ‘class act’ and his opponents are always wary of him.
Tion Brown also had to deal with stiff competition, but kept his cool and wrestled like an ‘old hand’.
Shaun Stoltz is new in this game
and was participating in his very first wrestling tournament. He made up for slightly inferior technique with his fighting spirit and will to win.
The Northern Natal Rhino wrestling club is based in Glencoe at Sarel Cilliers High School. They practice every Tuesday and Thursday from 17:30 to 19:00.
