Watch: Water levels rising in CBD area

At this stage, parts of roads have been closed by Public Safety

Water levels in the CBD area are rising… There is swirling water in roads such as Alexandra, Lyell, King, Forbes and Queen Street.

This morning (March 15), motorists were seen negotiating a flooded Lyell Street at the risk of doing damage to their vehicles.

Lyell Street is closed.

It is advised that motorists stay away from the above-mentioned streets until the water subsides.

Parts of town are flooded.

Water levels are rising slowly in the CBD, which could see entire roads being closed off.

At this stage, only parts of these roads have been closed by Public Safety. 

Alfred Duma Mayor Zama Sibisi said he checked the roads this morning and the situation was not so bad at that time. They will continue to monitor the situation during the day.
