Deputy Mayor’s bodyguard shot and killed –

One bodyguard has died and another has been wounded, following an alleged attempt on the life of Deputy Mayor, Musa ‘Sugar’ Thwala, last night (March 14).

According to multiple sources, Cllr Thwala and his security team were at a shopping centre in Madadeni, Section 5 when they came under fire. Bodyguards were said to have returned fire, wounding the alleged suspect.

It is believed the suspect has since been taken into police custody. However, official confirmation is still being awaited from SAPS officials.

Cllr Thwala confirmed he is fine, apart from being in a state of shock. He believes the shooting incident was a planned hit, in response to his attempts to ‘clean up Newcastle’.
