Cops seize firearms and drugs in Winterton

The suspects have been profiled to ascertain their involvement in any other crimes

Multi-disciplinary operations have been ongoing throughout the Uthukela policing precinct and have recently yielded success.

“Officers hit the grounds running when they recovered two pistols and 30 rounds of ammunition. The firearms were recovered in an abandoned house in the Winterton area,” explained police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan.

Further investigations will be conducted on the recovered firearms to link them to the occupants of the house.

Uthukela Crime Intelligence operatives, Winterton Visible Policing officers, as well as a small deployment from the South African Defence Force were responsible for the recoveries.

“Later that day, Ladysmith Dog Unit (K9) handlers and Uthukela Intelligence operatives arrested four men aged between 29 and 42.

The men were nabbed with narcotics. 29 mandrax tablets, four pieces of rock cocaine and 10 suspected heroin capsules were confiscated from the men,” added Khan.

The suspects have been profiled to ascertain their involvement in any other crimes.
