Municipal security guards set to protest?

Police monitored the situation

Alfred Duma Local Municipality security guards say they will protest if their voices are not heard. They are angry that their contracts are not being renewed by the municipality.

They stood in front of the Licensing Department under umbrellas this morning (March 9) to air their grievances.

Speaking to one of the security guards, he said he’s been working there for more than 11 years and now suddenly he has no job.

According to municipality spokesperson Siyabonga Maphalala, they are negotiating with the security guards at the Town Hall.

The guards threatened to embark on a protest if their grievances are not addressed.
