Eskom extends load-shedding until Saturday

Eskom extends load-shedding until Saturday –

Eskom will continue with Stage 2 load-shedding until 05:00 on Saturday, March 12, according to a media statement released by the power entity earlier this afternoon (March 8).

This continuation is stated to be a result of the unreliability of generators and to prevent a higher stage of load-shedding moving forward.

Eskom would like to apologise for the implementation of load-shedding and will continuously review the situation and act appropriately as circumstances change,” read the statement.

Eskom added that since yesterday (March 7), teams have been able to return four generation units to service. However, two other units have been taken offline for repairs.

A further two generation units are expected to return to service today, while an additional four units are expected to return to service by the weekend.

The total breakdowns, according to Eskom, amounted to 16 505 MW while planned maintenance is 5 505 MW of capacity.

Eskom appeals to all South Africans to help limit the impact of load-shedding by reducing the usage of electricity and [switching] off all non-essential items. We will continue to communicate promptly should there be any significant changes to the power system.”
