ESTCOURT KZN: DA leads protest to speed up asbestos roof removal project

The reason for the gathering was to demand that the asbestos roof removal project start immediately

Members of the Democratic Alliance (DA) and some members of the Forderville and Colita community gathered in front of the municipal building this morning (March 7).

The reason for the gathering was to demand that the asbestos roof removal project start immediately.

For more than a decade, 452 households in Colita and Forderville have been living under the dangerous asbestos roofing.

Continuous delays and ‘empty promises’ during the years have meant that this project has been on hold.

Members of the DA asked municipal manager Patrick Mkhize to ensure that prompt action is taken to speed up the project. They said that further delays places lives at risk.

A memorandum was handed over to Mkhize, which details the demands.
