Delegation honours sacrifices of Anglo-Boer War –

The Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of South Africa, Ilya I. Rogachev was among high-ranking officials present in Utrecht today (March 4).

Ambassador Rogachev was among those who laid wreaths at the both the NG Church and the Old Parsonage ‘Wall of Remembrance’. The wreaths honour soldiers who gave the ultimate sacrifice during the Second Boer War (from October  11, 1899 to May 31, 1902).

The wreath laying ceremony by Russian delegates takes place annually, according to museum committee members.

Soldiers from many other countries were involved in the war, explained committee vice-chairman, Mort Mortassagne. Three Russian soldiers were among the war’s casualties, he added.

The ceremony concluded at the museum’s conference room, where traditional food and drinks were exchanged.
