DUNDEE-GLENCOE: Complete mayhem breaks out at Ward 7 committee meeting

Ramsey explained that: "No meeting will sit in the ward until we have service delivery.

What was supposed to be a peaceful meeting to elect new Ward 7 committee members turned violent and required police intervention. The scheduled community meeting on Tuesday last week could not continue after Ward 7 community member Sydney Ramsey disrupted the meeting. Residents became violent while Speaker Nsibande was addressing them. Ramsey explained that: “No meeting will sit in the ward until we have service delivery. We currently have a major problem regarding the disconnection of water.

“Umzinyathi District Municipality (UDM) is billing the community falsely and when we go to pay, we are told to pay the average. “The company cars are also not branded, so what assurance do we have that they’re actually from UDM? “As a community, we are saying: Put a moratorium on disconnection of water until UDM is able to address this matter. “Besides this, UDM is sending their notices via social media. I don’t want to be a ward committee member nor a councillor; I’ve had enough! I want Mr Vilakazi as a ward committee member; if he’s not there, I will continue disrupting these meetings.”

Ramsey continued that the roads are damaged and there aren’t even any street names. “Yet Cllr Mohammed wants his own people as ward committee members,” he concluded. No comment was received from Speaker Nsibande.
