Two arrests for possession of illegal firearms

The guns will be subjected to ballistic testing

Police arrested two men for possession of illegal firearms over the weekend.

Intelligence-driven operation

The Uthukela Crime Intelligence Unit conducted an operation in the Mngwenya and Msobotsheni areas of Weenen on Saturday morning (February 19), resulting in the arrests. 

AK-47 and .303 rifle confiscated

The officers arrested a 40-year-old man in possession of an AK-47 assault rifle and three rounds of ammunition. Another man, aged 46, was found with an illegal .303 rifle.

Police also seized a 9mm pistol with 17 rounds of ammunition.

The firearms will be subjected to ballistic testing.

Suspects appear in court

The two men appeared before a magistrate this morning (February 21), both facing charges of possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.
