Speaker’s murder accused in court again

KZN CoGTA MEC, Sipho Hlomuka said news of the arrests in connection with Cllr Ndima's murder has brought hope.

Speaker’s murder accused in court again.

The two suspects charged with the murder of Reginald Ndima, the Speaker of the Amajuba District Council, appeared in court again on Monday (February 14).

Their bail application is expected to take place next Tuesday (February 22).

Mhlonishwa Sokhulu (43) and Sbusiso Chocolo (29) first appeared in court on February 7. Their arrest came the weekend after the gunning down of Ndima at his Ncandu Park home on January 29.

His murder is believed to be politically motivated.

Natasha Ramkisson-Kara, the Regional Spokesperson for the Directors of Public Prosecutions in KwaZulu-Natal, said in a statement last week that the matter was postponed to February 14 for bail information and appointing of attorneys.

MEC for the Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) in KwaZulu-Natal, Sipho Hlomuka said the loss of Cllr Ndima and Cllr Minenhle Mkhize – an eThekwini ward councillor who was shot and killed outside his home on January 22 – have left a deep scar on the communities these councillors served.

These attacks are viewed as attempts by those that seek to subvert and destabilise the sphere of local government within our province. As a government we will not be intimidated by these attacks, we will instead push with determination to ensure that those that are responsible are held to account…”

MEC Hlomuka said news of the arrests in connection with Cllr Ndima’s murder has brought hope. He also called it a clear indication that lawlessness would not be allowed to run rampant in KZN.

The Inkatha Freedom Party has expressed satisfaction with the progress of the investigation.
