Deputy Mayor ‘impressed’ with streetlight repairs

A few other broken streetlights were identified, and feedback will be given to the public once they have been fixed.

Deputy Mayor ‘impressed’ with streetlight repairs:

Cllr Musa Thwala has ‘hit the ground running’ during his recently announced weekly inspections of streetlights.

According to Mlungisi Khumalo, Head of Communications for the Newcastle Municipalty, Cllr Thwala and Speaker, Cllr Thengamehlo Zulu conducted an inspection along Amethyst Drive, in Sunnyridge.

“As the Portfolio Chairperson for Technical Services, Cllr Thwala has assured residents of Amethyst Drive that the busy street will receive the attention it deserves,” commented Khumalo.

After the inspection, Cllr Thwala said he was pleased to announce that every streetlight along Amethyst Drive was fixed.

“The Deputy Mayor has assured residents of Mndozo, Osizweni, Charlestown and across Newcastle that these visits will only be concluded when every streetlight, pothole and water challenge has been fixed.”

According to Khumalo, Cllr Thwala has said he believes a ‘hands-on approach’ is needed to tackled Newcastle’s service delivery challenges.

“The Technical Services Portfolio has challenged itself to ensure that matters related to electrical, water and roads issues are attended to,” said Cllr Thwala.

He added that he believes the municipality is ‘on the right path’.

“Our announced visits and inspections are to ensure that everything is done accordingly. Service delivery is about working with speed, and we need to constantly remind our public servants that we all serve the people of Newcastle, and not the other way around,” concluded Cllr Thwala.
