Even if you’re single this Valentine’s Day, you’re still somebody’s type

SANBS encourages you to step up and donate a unit of blood.

You’re still someone’s type, even if you’re single this Valentine’s Day.

South Africans are encouraged to step up and share the love by donating a unit of blood.

This is according to Shavani Sewpaul of the South African National Blood Service (SANBS).

“The want to feel love and affection has never been stronger than now, when we all miss those familiar embraces and hugs. So follow your heart to your nearest mobile blood drive or donor center to give one unit of blood love. This can save up to three lives and give the perfect gift to a stranger,” she said.

Share the Love at the Newcastle Mall Donor Centre this Valentine’s Day:

Go down to the Newcastle Mall SANBS Donor Centre between February 11 and February 14 and receive a sweet surprise after making your donation!

The donor centre operates from 9:00 to 17:00 from Monday to Fridays, 9:00 to 15:00 on Saturdays, and 9:00 to 14:00 on Sundays.

“With only 2.2 days of blood available, SANBS is urging everyone to donate. Share some liquid love to commemorate Valentine’s Day. Someone, somewhere, could benefit from 30 minutes of your time! Don’t wait, please donate.”

Fact:

Did you know that at least half of all South Africans will require blood or a blood product transfusion at some stage in their lives?

Only 432 000 – less than 1% – of South Africa’s 60,14 million individuals donate blood on a regular basis. It is our responsibility to fix it.

Every year, SANBS is in charge of recruiting and collecting blood, plasma, and platelets from over 185 fixed donor centers and over 6 000 mobile donor clinics.

Donate today:

You’re our type if you’re between the ages of 16 and 75, weigh at least 50 kilograms, are in good health, and consider your blood safe for transfusion.

“Because blood cannot be manufactured and has a finite shelf life, it must be supplied on a regular basis. In South Africa, 3 500 blood units are required per day to keep the blood supply constant. Put your heart and soul into it, and you’ll be able to assist us save lives.”
