ESTCOURT KZN: ‘Disgraceful’ state of public areas

“If my three-year-old walked into the long grass, I would not have seen him"

“It’s like a jungle out there.”

These were the words of a concerned resident when speaking about the long grass that is taking over sidewalks, open fields and even walkways.

“I recently took my family to Lambert Park, thinking we were going to spend a nice afternoon under the shade of the trees along the river. But I was shocked at the state this park has fallen into,” said the resident.

He explained that while the grass on the sports fields is short, the surrounding areas are ‘like a jungle’.

“If my three-year-old walked into the long grass, I would not have seen him. That’s how long the grass is. What I can’t understand is why the municipality would go to a place, cut the grass on the sports fields, but leave the surrounding areas. This doesn’t make sense,” said the resident

.

Without many recreational areas in Estcourt for families and friends, this resident is appealing to the municipality to maintain the existing facilities.

“Another disgraceful sight is the Garden of Remembrance in Alexandra Street. One cannot even enter this historic site because of the long grass. It is really sad to see,” said the resident.
