Suspects arrested for possession of heroin and other drugs

The operation was successful, with seven suspects in total being arrested for drug possession.

Suspects arrested for possession of heroin and other drugs:

An intelligence-driven, multi-disciplinary operation was carried out on January 21 and 22, in the Osizweni policing area.

According to Lizzy Arumugam of the Newcastle SAPS Corporate Communications office, the operation included members of Osizweni Crime Prevention and the Newcastle District Task Team.

Arumugam said members arrived at a house in Section A, Osizweni and arrested a 32-year-old suspect for being in possession of 17 parcels of cocaine.

“The recovered drugs was estimated to have a street value of around R500.”

Following that, members proceeded to a house in Blaauwbosch and arrested a 41-year-old suspect for possessing Mandrax.

Arumugam confirmed the recovered Mandrax was estimated to be worth around R500.

Members then apprehended a 24-year-old suspect at Mkhwanazi Stand in Osizweni for possessing 10 small parcels of heroin.

“The estimated street value of the drugs recovered was R500.”

Following that, Arumugam said members then nabbed a 34-year-old suspect in Osizweni’s Section C.

“The suspect was arrested for possessing one plastic bag containing Crystal Meth. The estimated street value of the drugs recovered was around R300.”

Following that, a 28-year-old suspect was arrested for possessing four small parcels of heroin in Section B, Osizweni, estimated to be worth around R200.

“Two more suspects, aged 30 and 31, were arrested by police in Section A, Osizweni for being in possession of heroin and 3.124 grams of dagga.  The drugs were estimated to cost around R850,” she explained.

“The operation was successful, with seven suspects in total being arrested for drug possession,” concluded Arumugam.

All suspects have since appeared in the Madadeni Magistrate Court.
