DUNDEE KZN: Axe murderer sentenced to life

Ms Mtshali is alleged to have been hit with an axe after she was accused of practicing witchcraft.

Justice has prevailed for the Mtshali family, two years after the brutal murder of Sibongile Elizabeth Mtshali (58) from Stratford Farm.

Xolani Sithole (37) was arrested on October 7, 2020, for brutally murdering Ms Mtshali with an axe at her home. On Tuesday last week, Sithole was found guilty of premeditated murder by Magistrate Ferreira and given a life sentence for the gruesome crime. Ms Mtshali is alleged to have been hit with an axe after she was accused of practicing witchcraft.

She suffered multiple wounds to her body and succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Sithole appeared briefly in court in October 2020 and on his second appearance, he was denied bail. The trial was set down in the Dundee Regional Court, where witnesses testified and the accused was found guilty of murder by the State.
