Exclusive interview with man who captured pit-bull video in Ladysmith

"I've never seen so much blood in my entire life!"

The Ladysmith Gazette recently spoke to the man who shot the video of the two dogs in the aftermath of a vicious attack on a man in Centenary Road last Saturday (January 15).

The man described the incident as heartbreaking and that he couldn’t believe what was happening in front of his very eyes. In the early hours of the morning, at around 04:50 on the day in question, he says he saw a man lying on the ground and a green jacket a few metres away from him.

At this stage, he didn’t know what was going on and he was scared, worrying that it could be a hijacking ruse. When he put his bright lights on, he saw blood everywhere. “I’ve never seen so much blood in my entire life! The dogs were still moving around the man, with blood on their faces,” he recalled.

He immediately called the police and ambulance services. The latter arrived at the scene within 10 minutes.

During this time, the dogs approached his vehicle and were lunging at the car, trying to bite the bumpers and tyres, and he couldn’t get out. “Both dogs were very aggressive, even towards my vehicle,” he said incredulously.

He then put his vehicle into ‘drive’ and revved the engine a bit, heading in the direction of the dogs. That scared them off. He added that emergency services arrived quickly, which he was grateful for.
