Mediclinic Newcastle amends visiting hours: Family and friends play an important role in the healing process.

This is according to Dr Gerrit de Villiers, Chief Clinical Officer for Mediclinic Southern Africa.

As such, Mediclinic Newcastle has revised its visiting hours to ensure that family can continue to engage and visit loved ones.

“One visitor at a time will continue to have access to non Covid-19 patients between 10:00 and 19:00 daily,” confirmed Dr de Villiers.

He added that two 30-minute sessions will be allowed for Covid-19 patients in the general wards, and two 15-minute sessions for patients in the ICU.

“This has to be planned with prior arrangement with the nursing team,” he said.

Visiting arrangements for NICU, Obstetrics and Paediatric units will remain in place.

“Mediclinic Newcastle’s Emergency Centre will continue to allow one visitor to accompany a patient into the examination area at all times. Mediclinic will also continue to support engagement with family and friends through electronic communication channels. This will encourage the vital support that these relationships provide in the healing process,” explained Dr de Villiers.

Mediclinic Newcastle has further implored the community to strictly adhere to all recommended measures to reduce the risk of infection.

This includes:

“We ask that individuals stay at home if they are unwell. This will help reduce the risk for vulnerable members of our community.”
