VRYHEID KZN: Missing traffic signs pose a threat to motorists

There are streets with no road markings or even a stop sign

If you are not a resident of Vryheid or are unfamiliar with the streets, it can be daunting when travelling through the town. The issue of poorly visible to non-existent traffic signs poses a risk, especially when a visitor or a resident travels in the residential areas. There are streets with no road markings or even a stop sign, which causes motorists to unknowingly ‘skip’ a stop sign that is not there. Some of the traffic signs have been vandalised and never repaired or replaced with new ones, while others are just missing. At the crossing between Afrikaner and Park Street, the stop sign is missing and the road markings are very faint; traffic in Park Street has the right of way. This could cause a serious accident without the proper traffic signs. No response from the municipality had been received at the time of going to press.
