VRYHEID KZN: What happened to the fixing of potholes?

Every now and again, a pothole is closed up with temporary material, but this is not ideal.

It is a year later and the potholes in and around town are getting bigger and more hazardous to motorists. President and Mark Street need a full rehabilitation, since those streets have been problematic for years already. In February last year, it was indicated by AbaQulusi Local Municipality that a budget of R2 million had been allocated, which was inclusive of a consultant’s fee dedicated towards fixing President Street. At that stage, it was said that they were in the designing stage and that the municipality would soon advertise for a tender for the construction of the street. Furthermore, it was said that while the work on President Street was taking place, the patching of potholes in other streets would continue as well. To date, this has not been the case, and neither Mark nor President Street has been rehabilitated. Potholes around town are growing by the day, roads are desperately deteriorating, and still nothing is done. Every now and again, a pothole is closed up with temporary material, but this is not ideal. With the first sign of rain, the pothole washes open once again. The Vryheid Herald reached out to the municipality regarding this issue, but at the time of going to print, none had been received.
