An intelligence-driven and multi-disciplinary operation was conducted in the Osizweni policing area.

SAPS nab suspects for drugs and other crimes during an operation on January 14 and 15.

According to Lizzy Arumugam of the Newcastle SAPS Corporate Communications office, an intelligence-driven and multi-disciplinary operation was conducted in the Osizweni policing area.

She confirmed that members went to a house in Section (A) and arrested a 42-year-old suspect for possessing 12 slopes of dagga and one parcel of dagga weighing 0.113grams.

“The recovered dagga was estimated to be worth around R1 400,” she said.

SAPS then proceeded to a house in Mndozo, Osizweni, and arrested a 28-year-old suspect for possessing five parcels of heroin.

“The value of the drugs recovered was estimated to be around R250,” said Arumugam.

Shortly after, a 24-year-old suspect was apprehended at a nearby residence for being in possession of 11 parcels of heroin.

The value of the drugs recovered was estimated to be R550.

“Another 24-year-old suspect was later apprehended in the same area for having a variety of drugs in his possession,” said Arumugam.

He was in possession of Mandrax, heroin, and dagga, according to Arumugam.

“He had seven full Mandrax tablets, two quarters of a Mandrax tablets, and 87 grams of dry loose dagga in his possession.”

The estimated street value of the drugs recovered was around R2 500.

SAPS then went to a house in Osizweni Section B and arrested a 26-year-old suspect for being in possession of 17 parcels of heroin.

The heroin recovered was estimated to be around R900.

According to Arumugam, law enforcement officials then received information about suspected stolen goods at a homestead in the Manzana area.

“This resulted in the successful arrest of six suspects between the ages of 21 to 32.”

The following items were recovered as a result of the arrest:

“The stolen goods were estimated to be worth around R40 000,” concluded Arumugam.

All suspects will appear before a magistrate this week.
