Water levels slowly decrease as roads remain blocked

Public Safety officers are manning areas with high traffic volumes

The level of the flood waters is slowly decreasing in Ladysmith.

Since yesterday (January 17), the water levels at Qedusizi Dam and the Soofie bridge are showing a downward trajectory. Readings taken yesterday at 16:40 were: Qedusizi Dam – 12,3m; and Soofie bridge – 7.85m.

The readings taken at 07:00 this morning (January 18) are: Qedusizi Dam – 10.6m; and Soofie bridge – 7.6m.

This shows that the water is indeed going down, but at a very slow rate. Reports this morning indicate that all roads in the low-lying areas of the CBD are still water-logged and blocked.
