CoGTA visits water projects in uThukela District

The programme seeks to alleviate water shortages facing the district

Department of Co-operative Governance & Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) Portfolio Committee members, led by Ms Zinhle Cele, held an oversight visit in the uThukela District on Wednesday (January 12) to check up on water projects. They also visited three production boreholes being implemented by CoGTA within the district.

Objectives

The main objectives of the visit were firstly to conduct an oversight visit of water projects. Secondly, to assess progress in the implementation of the yellow plant programme. And lastly to check if the municipality was using its funds accordingly.

Outcome

These interventions seek to alleviate water shortages facing the district, and also to provide sustainable and effective water supply for communities facing water backlogs.

uThukela District Mayor Inkosi Shabalala said that he appreciated the visit. “With this visit from the KZN Legislature and CoGTA, we as the new council now have a clear picture of what needs to be done going forward in order to ensure excellent service delivery to communities in the uThukela District,” said the mayor.
