Water likely to be restored soon, says municipal manager

Security personnel locked the gates at the plant and refused to allow uThukela workers access

Residents receiving water from the Ezakheni Water Treatment Plant are up in arms. They have been left without water for almost three days now and demand to know what’s going on.

A statement released by the municipality on Thursday (January 13) said that water was likely to be restored in three to five hours. However, this was not the case.

Residents’ taps were still dry this morning (January 14) and they are understandably furious about the situation.

“There is no end in sight,” fumed one resident.

Security guards block the gate

Speaking to uThukela Municipal Manager Martin Sithole, he said there was a dispute between the security service employees and the management of the security company. The security personnel locked the gates at the plant and refused to allow uThukela workers access. This, in turn, interrupted the water supply.

Water back on soon?

The municipal manager said that water is likely to be restored to the affected areas within the next four hours.
