Police within the Amajuba District are clamping down on stock theft crime.

During several SAPS-led operations recently, four suspects were arrested and stolen livestock recovered.

According to Lizzy Arumugam of the Newcastle SAPS Corporate Communications office, the cases are currently under investigation.

“On January 1, the Amajuba District Anti Stock Theft Task Force conducted an operation in the Dannhauser area, in order to implement the Animal Identification Act. This resulted in the issuance of 11 J534s (admission of guilt fines),” explained Arumugam.

She said on January 3, the same unit conducted a suspect raid at Hlathi Dam, and executed a warrant of arrest by detaining one suspect.

“Another suspect raid took place on January 4, in the Normandien area. Members apprehended one suspect.”
