With everyone focusing on New Year’s resolutions in the first month of 2022, Mr Shaun Coetsee got really proactive and took it upon himself to go out and clean the public park between Voortrekker and President Street.
Tractor to the rescue
As the manager at Motor Factors Breakdown & Salvage, Coetsee and his staff went out on Wednesday, January 5, with a tractor, brush cutters and other equipment to clean the park.
Time to cut the grass again
According to Coetsee, who lives in Voortrekker Street in the Hospital Park area, it has been some time since the grass in the park was properly cut, which is the duty of the municipality. According to him, the park was not fit for use by residents, as the grass had grown so high.
“This is a place that is supposed to be used for picnics or just relaxing with the kids on a Sunday afternoon. Try doing that with all the overgrowth!” he said.

Crime on the rise in the area
Coetsee added that enjoying the shade under the trees was also out of the question, as criminal activity is on the increase in the area. So, on the contrary to being a place of recreational enjoyment for families, the park has been turning into a threat for those living nearby. It provided a perfect hideaway for criminals.
But take a look at the park now! The grass is short and neat, and the overgrowth is all cleaned up!
