Watch: Flooding in Ladysmith CBD

The storm-water drainage system has been unable to cope with heavy rains

The low-lying areas of the Ladysmith CBD have flooded again.

Flooding in Lyell Street and the bottom of Queen Street started last night (January 11). By this morning, Public Safety had blocked off all access to the area, only allowing 4×4 bakkies at their own risk to enter the area.

This is the second time that the storm-water drainage system has been unable to cope with heavy rains.

Last year February, constant rainfall over a long period of time caused a similar problem, but as our drone footage shows, the flooding today is not as bad.

The river is flowing heavily and any further rain is likely to cause more flooding.

People are urged to avoid the area.
