Keep your dogs safe from loud fireworks

Shut out the noise by playing music

It’s normal for people to let off fireworks during the festive season.

But remember to keep your dogs safe during the cacophony that usually sends them into a wild panic.

How can I calm my dog down during fireworks?

Shut out the noise by playing music, closing your windows, drawing the curtains and staying in one room with your dog.

If possible, arrange to have your dog in a place where there won’t be loud fireworks nearby – a friend’s or relative’s home or a doggie day care your dog is familiar with. If it’s an unfamiliar place for your dog, take him there a few times in the days before the occasion when you expect the booming fireworks.

Accommodation

If you cannot take your dog to a place away from fireworks, then have a ‘travel kennel’ at home for her to feel safe in. If you’re not going to be home, have a friend or sitter there to keep your dog company and take her out to relieve herself every four hours.
