ESTCOURT KZN: An all-round success story on the cricket pitch

As an all-rounder, Trivashin has shown his skill with the bat, ball and on the field

When he was just seven years old, Trivashin Sewraj became interested in a cricket bat and ball… Since then, his love for the game has grown, also shaping his development. Now 25 years old, Trivashin was born and raised in Estcourt. He attended Forderville Primary and Estcourt High schools.

His interests, apart from cricket, are also outdoor-related and include soccer and fishing. When Trivashin started showing an interest in cricket at a young age, his talent was nurtured and this opened the door to bigger and better opportunities which started when he was in primary school.

“I was in Grade 2 when I was selected to play in the Bakers mini-cricket tournament in Ladysmith. I also represented my school and played for Northern KwaZulu-Natal,” he said.

As an all-rounder, Trivashin has shown his skill with the bat, ball and on the field. When he joined the Umtshezi Cricket Association, he played for Willows before moving to Colita Cricket Cub, where he is currently a team player. Playing at this level means that the team not only competes domestically, but also against teams from other towns.

“One of the things I enjoy about playing cricket is when I play out-of-town matches and I get recognised by players from other teams,” said Trivashin.

His years of playing cricket have come with many ups and downs.

“The highlight of my career was achieving one of my highest milestones in a cricket match, which was making 166 runs not out. The lowlight of my career was missing the ‘Player of the Season’ award by two runs,” he relates.

Trivashin aspires to take his game to national level, with his dream being to someday play for the Proteas. On the home front, he hopes to see the youth getting interested in cricket.

“I would like to see more youth getting involved in playing cricket and would also like to ask all parents to send their children to the Colita Cricket Club Youth Academy,” he said.

When asked who his role model is, Trivashin names Yuvraj Singh, a former Indian international cricketer who played in all formats of the game. “I admire his focus on the field.”
