A 36-year-old father was arrested recently for murdering his eight-month-old baby girl.
On December 16, the baby was left with her grandparents in Steadville while the mother went to the Ekuvukeni area. The father of the baby was living in a shack in the same yard. He requested that the baby sleep with him that night. Thinking nothing of it, his request was granted.
Early the next day, the baby’s grandmother came to take the child. However, the father alleged that he had handed the baby over to family of the mother during the course of the night.
Police were immediately called.
Upon questioning, the man confessed to killing and burying the baby in his shack.
A forensics team was called in and the baby’s tiny lifeless body was dug out of a shallow grave. She had sustained an open cut from the chest to the stomach.

The man was due to appear in court today (December 20).
