IFP remains in power at local municipality

The mayor is Cllr Zama Sibisi, the deputy mayor Cllr Sizwe Simelane and the speaker Cllr Bheki Sithole

The new administration for Alfred Duma Local Municipality, as a result of a re-run of the first council meeting, is as follows: the mayor is Cllr Zama Sibisi, the deputy mayor Cllr Sizwe Simelane and the speaker Cllr Bheki Sithole.

All three are from the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP)
 
This was after the ANC took the matter to court, claiming that there were irregularities in the election of the speaker.

The Pietermaritzburg High Court ruled that the council should hold a meeting within five days from Wednesday, December 15, in order to re-elect a new speaker, mayor and deputy mayor.
