DUNDEE KZN: Northern Natal JKA reflects on stellar year

The karateka performed well during their respective gradings, with more than 150 participating from the affiliated dojos of Hluhluwe, Piet Retief, Paulpietersburg, Ladysmith, Dundee, Newcastle, Volksrust and Vryheid.

From slow start to big finish, the NKZN JKA region ended the year on a high note, celebrating its year-end grading on Saturday, November 20.

The day started with a black belt class, followed by a colour belt training session that consisted of each level’s grading syllabus combined with JKA exercises involving hip movement, speed, agility and power, with some fun thrown into the mix.

“While the Covid pandemic has wreaked havoc all over the world, it has failed to dampen spirits and diminish numbers within Northern KwaZulu-Natal JKA,” said Sensei Johan Swart.

“When strict lockdown regulations imposed by the government meant that people had to stay at home, we at NKZN JKA kept training by means of zoom classes, allowing karateka to participate in sessions from the comfort of their own homes. Even though we have had to change the way we do things and how we train (maintaining distance and wearing masks), most of the karateka have managed to adapt to their situation and rise above the challenges they face on a daily basis,” the area head of NKZN JKA finished proudly.

The karateka performed well during their respective gradings, with more than 150 participating from the affiliated dojos of Hluhluwe, Piet Retief, Paulpietersburg, Ladysmith, Dundee, Newcastle, Volksrust and Vryheid.

With 2021 drawing to a close, the NKZN JKA management would like to thank all the sensei and karateka for their dedication and hard work throughout the year, as well as wish their families and loved ones a safe and happy festive season.
