ESTCOURT KZN: Man charged for shooting at police

Fortunately, none of the three police officers were injured

A 21-year-old man has been charged with three counts of attempted murder after he fired at police who were responding to a shooting on the evening of December 3.

It is reported that Amangwe police were called to the scene in Madolobheni location after gunshots were heard.

“On arriving at the premises, the officers established that the gunfire and possible shooting had emanated from the back of the premises. While walking back to their vehicle, the officers suddenly came under fire,” explained police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan.

Fortunately, none of the three police officers were injured.

“Backup was called and the premises was searched. A 21-year- old suspect was arrested after being found in possession of two rounds of live ammunition. Officers also recovered four spent cartridges in the yard,” added Khan.

The man appeared in the Bergville Magistrate’s Court on Monday (December 6), where he also faces an additional charge of being in unlawful possession of ammunition.
