NHS learner to participate in Eskom Expo International Science Fair

He received a highly commended merit award along with two special awards.

NHS learner, Tinashe Sumaili, will participate in Eskom Expo International Science Fair.

The Newcastle High School learner was honoured for his participation in the provincial round of the Eskom Expo for Young Scientists.

School principal, Manny Govender said Sumaili was later chosen to compete in the Eskom Expo International Science Fair.

“Along with a few of other accolades, he got a highly commended commendation award,” said Govender.

The Technology Innovation Agency Award was one of the special awards.

“This prize was awarded through the collaboration between Eskom Expo and the Technology Innovation Agency, an implementing agency of the Department of Science and Innovation.”

He will participate in a 5-day virtual innovation and entrepreneurship boot camp.

This will prepare him to take his innovations from concept to product development, and new enterprise formation.

The boot camp is worth R500 000.

In addition, he was named a Siemens SITRAIN Finalist.

Siemens in Africa is providing learners with opportunities to improve their engineering abilities.

The company does this through Siemens Industry Training (SITRAIN) at the Siemens Training Centre in Midrand.

Sumaili was also given the opportunity to participate in the World Innovative Project Olympiad.

This will be held virtually by the Indonesian Scientific Society from December 10-15, via Science Buddies SciZa.

“Congratulations, young man. The world of science and technology awaits you!” concluded Govender.
