N3 near Van Reenen currently closed

This morning (December 3), truck drivers have blocked the N3 near Van Reenen’s Pass and have obstructed the flow of traffic. All lanes are currently closed and there is already an extensive backlog of vehicles.
The reason for this protest action is unknown at this stage.
Van Reenen SAPS, RTI and N3TC are currently on scene to monitor the situation.
Speaking to officials at the scene, they say they are not sure how long the protest will carry on or when the road will be cleared. The N3 is still closed to traffic at this time.

Update: Motorists are urged not to use the R74 Oliviershoek as an alternative route, but rather go via Newcastle.
