SARS extends its filing season deadline

To afford other taxpayers the opportunity to comply with their legal requirements, SARS will extend the filing season deadline for non-provisional individual taxpayers from 23 November 2021 to 2 December 2021.

The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has extended its filing season deadline.

SARS representatives said it is pleased with the overwhelming response it has received from taxpayers who have submitted personal income tax returns since July,1.

“We would like to thank these taxpayers for responding to our strategic aim of encouraging a culture of voluntary compliance.”

However, in order to give other taxpayers more time to comply with their legal obligations, SARS will extend the filing season due for non-provisional individual taxpayers from November 23 to December 2, 2021.

“We are acutely aware of the company’s systemic difficulties, as well as the impact of load-shedding on taxpayers, which makes it impossible for people to file their returns.”

As a result, the deadline for levying penalties on unfiled returns will be extended and implemented in January 2022.

“We encourage taxpayers to use our convenient digital channels, which include eFiling, the SARS MobiApp, and the SMS service (47277). Taxpayers can arrange an appointment at a SARS branch, check if they need to file a return, and access additional services by texting this number.”

The SARS website has also been modified to provide taxpayers with more digital services.

Visit www.sars.gov.za for additional information on these services.

“SARS is committed to making it simple and easy for taxpayers to meet their legal duties, and the extension of the filing season deadline is intended to encourage more compliance among taxpayers.”
