President honours Joseph Shabalala with prestigious award

Dr Joseph Shabalala was honoured for his contribution in the development of Isicathamiya music

President Cyril Ramaphosa on Thursday, November 18, honoured the late Ladysmith icon Dr Joseph Shabalala with the prestigious ‘Order of IKHAMANGA’ award.

The event was held at the Sefako M Makgatho Presidential Guesthouse in Tshwane.

Receiving the award was Mr Nkosinathi Shabalala.

The ‘Order of IKHAMANGA’ salutes Dr Shabalala for his exceptional contribution to the promotion of African Isicathamiya music.

Dr Joseph Shabalala was the founding member of world-renowned group, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, who won numerous Grammy awards.
