The Angling Professional League (APL) held its League 4 at Richgate Park on November 14.

As is the norm, there was the usual banter before the gates opened, but as the anglers went to their respective drawn zones, it was business as usual as the participants tried their level best to entice the fish onto their hooks.
On this occasion, most were not disappointed, as reflected in the points accumulated.

Dannhauser AC emerged victorious with an impressive haul of 175 points, followed by current league champions Breakwaters AC with 165 points; Challengers (98); Stillwaters AC (53); and Glencoe AC (27).
The Mohamed Midas League Table sees Breakwaters AC at the summit on 38 points, followed by Dannhauser AC (32), Challengers AC (24), Stillwaters AC (16) and Glencoe AC (10). Breakwaters are favourably placed to retain the Mohamed Midas League Trophy.

Basheer Abdool of Dannhauser AC had an impressive haul of fish, scoring 38 points to be crowned ‘Angler of the Day’ to win the purple cap, R200 and an outright trophy.

The current title contenders setting the pace are Elias Dabooda (Challengers AC – heaviest scaled fish category with a carp of 4.256kg to win R500 as an incentive for landing a carp over the 4kg mark); Sikander Amod (Breakwaters AC – heaviest non-scaled fish with a barbel of 7.365kg); Eric De Bruycker (Stillwaters AC – rare specie with a kurper of 1.420kg to win R500 as an incentive prize); Abhay Singh (Stillwaters AC – Junior Angler of the Year on three points); Nabeela Amod (Stillwaters AC – Lady Angler of the Year on two points); and Ronnie Rampersadh (Breakwaters AC – Senior Angler of the Year on 34 points).

Monty Slabbert of Breakwaters AC (54 points) leads the APL log and is the current holder of the orange cap, followed by Basheer Abdool of Dannhauser AC with 44 points and Wayne Oosthuizen of Breakwaters AC on 37 points.

The top three anglers of the season receive tackle vouchers worth R3000, R2000 and R1000 respectively with the compliments of Mohamed Midas and the APL.
The Angler of the Year of the APL wins the ultimate prize of a family weekend at a prestigious venue on the Vaal.

The log leaders of the other clubs put themselves in contention to win R250 worth of tackle vouchers sponsored by Mohamed Midas. They are: Rajendra Garahoo of Challengers AC (29 points); Mark Ince (Stillwaters AC – 19); and Ridwaan Raheman (Glencoe AC – 18).

The next fixture of the APL will be the AA Coaches Knock-Out Eliminator at Sandford on November 28 at Sandford, with the top four clubs progressing to the semi-finals.
