ESTCOURT KZN: Municipal council elected

The 24 ward councillors and 23 proportional representative councillors pledged their allegiance to the municipality and its citizens while taking the Oath of Office

47 councillors were sworn in today (November 22) at Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality’s council inauguration.

The ceremony was held at the Estcourt Town Hall and was attended by municipal management, the new councillors, representatives from the Independent Electoral Commission, political party supporters as well as community members.

The 24 ward councillors and 23 proportional representative (PR) councillors pledged their allegiance to the municipality and its citizens while taking the Oath of Office.

The election of the Speaker was first and this was taken by Simphiwe Khumalo from the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP).
From the nine councillors elected in the Executive Committee, the Mayor and Deputy Mayor were nominated.

The nominees for mayor were Mduduzi Myeza (IFP) and Edith Lite (African National Congress).

Donning the Mayor’s gown and chain was Mduduzi Myeza who during his first official address promised to elevate the town to a level that is satisfactory to its citizens and promotes local economic growth.

The elected Deputy Mayor is Nhlanhla Dladla (IFP).
