Dr Mahlaba convicted by Regional Court

The legal representative for Dr Mahlaba, Ravindra Manikall will file an application for leave to appeal.

Dr Ntuthuko Mahlaba was convicted by the Newcastle Regional Court a short while ago. He faces two years in prison or a R20 000 fine (for inciting someone to commit a serious offence).

During proceedings today, Magistrate Theunis Colditz acquitted Dr Mahlaba and Sgananda Shezi on count 2 (attempted murder). This means Shezi is now cleared of all charges.

Magistrate Colditz said there was evidence, however, of Dr Mahlaba’s presence at the scene of September 3, 2020. At this scene, there was evidence of dangerous weapons being used to seriously injure people.

This resulted in Dr Mahlaba being convicted by the Regional Court on count 6.

The legal representative for Dr Mahlaba, Ravindra Manikall will file an application for leave to appeal.
