Dillon Naidoo’s family lay him to rest

"We have spent our lives grooming you into a true gentleman, and because you were the best, God took you first."

Dillon Naidoo’s family and friends have laid him to rest.

In an emotional ceremony on November 13, family and friends had the opportunity to say their final goodbyes.

Dillon (34) passed away after succumbing to injuries incurred during what is believed to have been an illegal drag race on October 22.

The two men implicated in his death were first charged with reckless and negligent driving.

These charges have since been amended to culpable homicide.

The accused were scheduled to appear in the Newcastle Magistrate’s Court on November 11 to have their charges amended.

However, the case was postponed to November 21, when the court will officially decide what charges the suspects will face.

Family pays tribute to Dillon:

Family and friends of the late Dillon Naidoo have sent in their heart-felt tributes, honouring him and the remarkable role he played in their lives. Here are a few messages:

  • Dillon, our brother, cousin, uncle…The life of the party, always dancing and making sure that everybody is having fun. Our hearts are broken and the pain is unbearable. Our love for you is eternal, and you will be sorely missed. You are irreplaceable. Our only solace is the belief that you are whole again, and happy wherever you are. Our promise to you is that we will not stop dancing, we will remain united and we will look after Roshelle and Skylar like you did. May you rest in heavenly peace until we meet again.
  • Dillon, we will never be able to go a day without thinking about you. The loss we feel is beyond measure and knowing that we will never be able to see your smile darkens our days. You were our true soldier, who fought to the very end, and your battle will never be forgotten. You have gained your wings and we know that you will be our guardian angel, watching over us all. We love you, Dillon, forever and always – Love, your nephews, brothers, and sisters
  • Our beloved son, Dillon. We have spent our lives grooming you into a true gentleman, kind-hearted, caring, and loving young man and because you were the best- god took you first. There will never be a moment when we will not be thinking of you and all the wonderful memories you have left us with. As each day passes, we find comfort in knowing that your pain has come to an end and although we miss you very much, we know that you are dancing with the angels. We love you son – Always and forever, Mum and dad.
  • Dilz, it is so difficult to comprehend that you are no longer with us. We are so blessed to have had you in our lives. There was never a dull moment in your presence as you were always so full of laughs and pranks. Your love for your family will forever be remembered, and we will treasure every moment spent with you. You believed in living life to the fullest, and fighting until the end. May your legacy live on forevermore, and may you find peace in your journey home. Forever in our hearts son – From your aunts and uncles.
A poem from former classmates
  • Dear Dillon. I write this poem for you.

A sweet soul from our crew.

Who knew that you would be the first to leave us and pass this physical life by….

when we met you, you started off so super shy.

Our high school days filled with crazy and fun is right where it all begun.

You walked in and passed us by and we knew you were one of us… and that you were our kinda guy.

You joined the south African crew and we were all friends , in a foreign country setting all kinda trends.

Your first day at school your shoes were so shiny, we instantly knew you came from back home and oh was it timely.

You added some Durban spice to our already established friends and we just knew you would stick with us until the end.

Being in a foreign country I think we all struggled a bit, but a new friend from home meant our group became legit.

Your kind and caring nature always stood out among all, your smile and your laugh was infectious for sure.

As your life on earth has come to an end we want you to know that you were an amazing friend.

Now you have angel wings looking down from above, I know you are looking over everyone that has filled your heart with love.

I don’t even think you realise the impact that you’ve made, and

Just how many of us wish we could hug you again.

For now our dear friend until we meet again, forever in our hearts is where we keep a friend.

ALL OUR LOVE. Your friends from Melville High. Forever young. Rest easy Dilz… We love you. Until we meet again dear friend! – Jessica Finch
