World-class Combo Court handed over to Osizweni residents

"Instead of drugs or gangsterism, our youth will spend a lot of time in this facility perfecting their craft and sporting skills."

A world-class and state-of-the-art brand-new Combo Court was officially handed over to the residents of Osizweni in Ward 10 recently.

The Combo Court was officially opened by KwaZulu-Natal Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation MEC Hlengiwe Mavimbela.

This was part of the municipality’s campaign to ensure recreational facilities were available in every area of Newcastle.

Head of Communications for Newcastle Municipality, Mlungisi Khumalo said the combo court at Enhlokweni Primary School would also be used by neighboring schools and community sporting clubs for various sports such as netball, volleyball, basketball, and tennis.

Deputy Mayor, Cllr Reuben Molelekoa, Speaker of Council Cllr Samukelisiwe Yende, and Newcastle Chief Whip Cllr Dolly Mnguni conducted the official opening of the combo court.

“This world-class sporting and recreational facility is a response to the community’s needs,” Khumalo explained.

Cllr Molelekoa said that as a listening and caring government, they made sure to deliver right away.

“Instead of drugs or gangsterism, our youth will spend a lot of time in this facility perfecting their craft and sporting skills.”

To date, 98% of Newcastle’s communities have access to sporting and recreational facilities.

“When we say we will bring basic services and projects from Ward 1 to Ward 34, we mean it!”
