Fire reported at factory in Riverside Industrial

It is believed a cigarette butt ignited dry grass and eventually set fire to wooden pallets.

A fire has been reported at a factory in Riverside Industrial this afternoon. A team from Newcastle Fire Services responded to the scene.

Initial reports suggested one of the buildings was ablaze. It was later confirmed the fire had in fact broken out in open land away from any of the buildings.

It is believed a cigarette butt ignited dry grass and eventually set fire to wooden pallets. According to sources, staff used fire extinguishers and hydrants to help put the fire out.

Following the fire reported at the factory in Riverside Industrial, first responders thanked everyone who assisted.
