Fighting bullying and body shaming in Ladysmith

The sizes of the models ranged from size 36 to size 50

Local model Thobeka Mlotshwa hosted the Miss Festive Plus Size Ladysmith pageant on Saturday, October 30, at the Siyafunda Tuition College. The event was aimed at fighting bullying and body shaming.

The body sizes of the models ranged from size 36 to 50, with their ages ranging from 17 to 35.

The competition had two age categories, namely 17 to 24 and 25 to 35. The winners in category 1 were: Queen – Andiswa Ntuli, 1st runner up – Asibonge Sithole, and 2nd runner up – Shelldine Ramdeen. Main category: Queen – Phindile Chamane, 1st runner up, Londiwe Mbatha, and 2nd runner up – Sinenhlanhla Hadebe.

All the winners received hampers courtesy of Vodacom Ladysmith Cluster.

“The challenge of bullying and body shaming is ongoing and we, as a society, haven’t done enough to fight it. This starts in the schools and it escalates through the whole society. I started this event to encourage people to accept one another and stop body shaming,” said Thobeka Mlotshwa.
